I finally got my new garage “in the queue” for a construction date, which means that someday in the coming months, I’ll have a garage in which to work on my Plymouth. I’ll also have a great garage in which to store my tools and set up a work bench. My wife is encouraging me to equip my shop with some nice workbenches as those sold commercially at Lowe’s, Home Depot, etc. Sounds like a plan to me!
I recently purchased an electric buffer and some polishing compounds with plans to polish the Plymouth. I wish I had realized it only has a single speed, but it is what it is.
I replaced the “nearly too short” rubber fuel line with a longer section, so I feel confident driving the Plymouth without fear of the fuel line coming apart.
My next project is going to be to replace the Plymouth’s door panels. The panels were re-upholstered back when the car was refurbed 30 years ago. The lower third of the backing cardboard on both door panels has gotten damp and warped. The upholstery also has some tears. The special Belvedere door trim is in good shape, so I’m looking to basically redo the doors with dark blue/light blue or dark blue/white vinyls. There’s no shortage of YouTube videos that cover these kind of projects.
I’ll also redo the rear seat panels in a similar fashion.
I’m hoping on Friday to apply some polish to the Plymouth. The dark blue has only a very muted gloss. The thing I don’t want to do is to screw up the existing paint. I’m going to be very, very careful moving forward with that — which is why I bought polishing compound instead of rubbing compound.
Saturday, July 24th is going to a nice day — sunny, temps in the low 90s, and this weekend is the Whiskey City Cruisers event here in town. My wife is going to be able to go, and our plan is to spend the afternoon. There’s also a car show at Thomas Nelson High School (a football boosters fundraiser), and the monthly classic car, bike and truck show at Central Garage in Mount Washington.
We have our new 10×10 shade thingie to take, since WCC event is located in the parking lot in front of our local Tractor Supply. We’ll have to take chairs and a cooler full of ice and water. I would also like to go to the Central Garage cruise, but my wife and I usually go to Mass at 5:30 Saturdays at Immaculate Conception in Culvertown. I’m thinking that we stay at Whiskey City Cruisers until 5-ish and then head for church. Maybe then we can cruise town a while, then get a bite to eat — provided the Plymouth cooperates, which it should.
I’ll have photos and more if we actually get to the Cruisers. More to come!
