Happy New Year to any readers lurking around this blog! For the first time in quite a while, my wife and I actually left home for New Year’s — we went to the lake house of my wife’s best friend for the night. Good time!
The local car club continues to meet at 5 p.m. every Monday at Burger King for supper, drinks, etc. I haven’t been going in December, too much stuff going on. Its stylish if you bring your classic car out to the BK meetings, but I’ve decided I need to leave the Belvedere parked in the garage. Actually, instead of driving to BK on Mondays, I need to install some of the latest parts I bought for it.
AN UNUSUAL AND SOUGHT-FOR EBAY FIND. It was one of those unusual times when you do a search on eBay and actually find something you need. In this instance, the “something” was a 1956 Plymouth intact, complete and excellent condition horn ring.
Those of you who aren’t familiar with 1956 Plymouths will know that 9 times out of 10, the original horn ring — which originally was a complete circle — is missing the top half. Most of the time, that top half is missing, broken off at the point the ring attaches to the main center hub of the horn ring. In fact, the man who sold me the Belvedere swore up and down that the horn ring was original and NEVER WAS a complete circle! I had done my research before I drove over to see the car, and knew it was supposed to be a complete circle.
Anyway, the horn ring was not a Buy It Now, but an auction, which meant trying to be available when it closed. The timing worked out OK. I wanted the horn ring really badly, so I put in a very high bid in the last 3 seconds of the auction. Actually, my bid was in the final SECOND of the auction, one of my best sniper jobs! I damn near didn’t get it, but I did.
When the horn ring arrived, I looked it over closely to make sure it was solid and not damaged. It’s perfect and in near mint condition. No issues, No problems.
The horn ring was probably the second best eBay score I’ve made in locating parts for the Plymouth. The first would be the hood bird, which I still have yet to install.
GARAGE WORK AHEAD. I still need to complete installing electrical in the garage. Its just not very convenient to work in there without overhead lighting.
I’ll have to get that done before I can really do much on the Plymouth.
C’mon Spring!
