Everything came together this week and I was able to actually participate in this weekend’s Whiskey City Cruisers cruise-in. The time of the monthly cruise was changed to noon to 6 p.m., and the last time I got there after noon and couldn’t find a good parking spot. This time I left home at 11:15 a.m. and got a primo parking spot. The only downside of my great parking spot was basically getting blocked in by other cars. That’s OK, I really didn’t mind, and I really didn’t have anywhere else I had to be. My plan was to stay at least until 4 p.m., but I ended up staying until about 5:15, which again was fine. What was surprising to me was how many cars were STILL there at 5:15 p.m.!
We had just under 200 cars throughout the afternoon — some came early and left, others came later and stayed. It was was impressive to see all the variety of cars that I had never seen come to a Whiskey City Cruise event.
Something I did on my own was to place a banner ad promoting the cruise on my news website. The banner was aimed not at fellow car owners, but at locals who might want to come out and enjoy the free event. I realize it was a big family weekend, and we had more spectators today than any other cruise I’ve been to.
I bought a really nice duster to help prep the car, and the thing did a bang-up job. Elijah and I had finished waxing the car last week, and dusted it off a couple of times since then and the car still looked great.
RUST WORRIES. While at the cruise,, I noticed some new bubbles in the lower front quarter panel behind the door. There’s already a bad section of body work there, and now small bubbles are popping up. The bubbles in the paint, even the small ones, indicate a pending rust-through. Given the spread of the bubbles, it looks like much of that panel has been repaired with bondo.
And more importantly, I’m beginning to wonder if I can really wait until the end of this cruising season to fix the rust. I really don’t want to do it this early in the year, and I’m hoping I can manage to get thru the season. Its just kind of hard to park next to some of the primo-perfect cars the Cruisers own while mine slowly rusts away, lol.
One strategy could be to fix the quarter panel and repaint it with the light blue I have. In fact, I could probably paint all the lower body blue to make sure it matches. That’s still not the best option, I first really need to get the lights and power wired in the garage. I just need to get off my ass and get that done, you know?
MECHANICAL CHECKUP. I never have taken the Plymouth to A1A Auto. I need to have the brake lines checked, fuel line checked, and other safety checks. I would like for him to install the seat belts i have too — that’s assuming the floor pan is sufficiently solid.
I also need to get the driveshaft measured too. Its always something, lol.
