Early October cruise brings out the cars, crowds

Sunday, Oct. 9, 2022

Its been a beautiful and busy weekend for me, my son and my wife. Saturday, my wife worked several hours and our son worked a NASCAR race at the radio station. I spent the time boxing up some eBay items and washing the Plymouth in preparation for Sunday’s cruise.

The temp this morning when I got out of bed at 9 a.m. was 38 degrees, so yeah, the day started out pretty chilly. I arrived at the cruise location just before noon, got a primo parking spot. The crowd didn’t really start arriving until after 1 p.m., which is pretty typical for a Sunday cruise.

I hadn’t washed the Plymouth in weeks, but honestly, it cleaned up quickly. I drove it down to the end of our loop and back again, the dried off the rest of the water with a chamois.

We stayed at the cruise until about 4 p.m. and then headed home. This cruise had a lot of out-of-town cars and even more spectators — lots of spectators. It was a really nice day. Plus, one of the local guys had a squirrel he had trapped in his barn with him. The squirrel became the center of attention for most of the afternoon.

Tammy met me at the cruise in her car, and she got lunch over at KFC. We split a chicken sandwich and mac and cheese.

I stopped on the way to town and bought $15 worth of gas — just to be sure I didn’t run out between home, town and home again.

There were only two other Plymouths that I spotted at the cruise — a mid-70s Plymouth Duster, and an early 70s Plymouth Roadrunner.
