I don’t have much of an update on the Plymouth but I do have somethings to report.

OIL BATH AIRCLEANER CONVERSION. After a series of issues with the solvents in the 1k primer lifting the old paint on the air cleaner (as well as the Evercoat 2k glazing putty), I shot the air cleaner lid and body with a 2k primer sealer. The only issue I had was my decision to not follow the air pressure recommendation on the Technical Data Sheet (TDS).

The TDS suggested 7 to 10 psi for a gravity fed gun with a 1.3 or 1.4 tip. I bumped the pressure up closer to 25 psi, which resulted in way, WAY too much material being sprayed, and created an orange peel surface. The Custom Shop product I had is an epoxy primer/sealer — the only difference is when shooting it as a sealer, you add a small amount of reducer, which I did. I’m not going to complain about the heavy coating of sealer because I ended up sanding it down smooth with 180 grit.

In spots where the epoxy was thin, I burned thru to metal, but that’s ok. This epoxy is also DTM. I have sanded the body and lid of the air cleaner, used glazing putty on a couple of minor spots, and its ready for another coat. This time I’m going to shoot it at the proper air pressure, and probably mix it as primer. To be epoxy, ,it sanded pretty damn well after curing a couple of days. I’m really impressed with it. I believe I’ll use this product on the Plymouth over areas of bare metal, and perhaps over the metal work prior to body filler.

YERF DOG. It took two weeks to get the parks I needed, bu the Yerf Dog Scout UTV is running once again. It wasn’t a carb issue at all, but lack of spark. I should have checked it first, but the Yerf has had fuel delivery issues (or I THOUGHT it was fuel delivery issues) since it was given to me.

WHISKEY CITY CRUISERS. I haven’t mentioned it here, but the Whiskey City Cruisers lost the use of the Kentucky Home Square parking lot for its cruises. I haven’t heard why, but I have a couple of theories.

Fors tarters, other car groups were using the parking lot on weekends when the Cruisers weren’t there. This includes the 502 Certified group and possibly others. The shopping center owners sent an email simply stating they were now reserving the parking lot for their businesses. The 502 Certified car club tends to be a younger, rowdier group, not nearly as ‘senior’ as those of us with the Cruisers. I suspect that businesses or patrons may have complained. Its a loss to the Cruisers, no doubt about that.

Jim Boles is one of the cruise organizers, and he’s informed me that he believes we can secure the Nelson County Justice Center parking lot. That lot will work OK, but the parking spots are arranged in aisles with concrete and grass mediams. I haven’t counted how many spots there are yet, there just seem to be a lot of medians and curbs to deal with. The Kentucky Home Square lot has no curbs, medians or parking blocks in the outer parts of the lot, which makes it easy to cruise and walk around.

OTHER PROJECTS AWAIT. After I get the Yerf Dog completed (hopefully this weekend), I can get it out and pull my Massey-Ferguson 135 in the garage. I have needed to redo the wheel bearings on both front wheels, they have so much slop and play in them that I’ve been afraid I’m going to lose an entire hub and wheel. I have a bearing kit to redo them sitting next to my computer. Look forward to getting that done, too. I need to bushhog down the hill!

The 1956 Plymouth is still waiting for me to start work on it. I keep thinking of washing it off and driving it to town, just to get it out. The most important repair on it right now is identifying what’s leaking when you put gas in the tank. I’m not sure if its the large rubber hose that connects the filler tube with the tank, or the smaller vent hose, which according to photos my son took, looks very sketchy.

I need to raise the car up on my QuickJacks,, which are assembled and ready to go … but haven’t yet pressed into service. Why? I’m hesitant to get down on the ground and crawl around to line up the QJ with the Plymouth frame rails.

I’m also considering either changing this website name or starting a new site to reflect my YouTube account, The Shadetree Garage. I’ve enjoyed making videos for that account, but still don’t have any real content form work on the auction car yet.

More to come!
