Plymouth update

Friday, Nov. 16, 2024 — Been a while since I’ve posted an update in this space. I’ve been spending time creating YouTube content when I probably should be working on the Plymouth, LOL.

But I HAVE been back at work on the car, starting with the driver’s side fender rust repair. I had to cut out the rust and then create a appropriate size patch panel.

Fixing rust holes can be something like solving a mystery. This rust spot didn’t form at the bottom of the fender, which is where most rust areas form. That’s where the road salt, water, and debris collection, along the rocker panels, lower quarters and lower fenders. This spot is well up from the bottom of the panel. So why did it rust??

The answer appears to be simple — an inner brace on the fender was just about touching the inside of the fender skin. Actually I think it DID touch. When I cut the rusted area loose, a great deal of rust scale and debris fell out that was trapped between the fender skin and the brace. The brace was rusty as shit too. I used a wire wheel to knock the rust off the fender brace (the exposed part) and then coated the brace with two coats of Eastwood Rust Encapsulater. I cut the patch out of 22 gauge to a snug fit and then coated the backside of the panel with Ospho.

I planned to weld it today, but decided instead to try to repair the lightning jack on my business iphone 7 plus. That’s the phone I use for recording YouTube videos.

Well, I ran into some problems. For starters, the cheap ass screwdrivers would not loosen one of the tiny screws. So I decided to quit and reassemble the phone. One of the tiny single pole connectors would not snap back in place. There are two of them side-by-side, and one of them would not snap no matter what I did. I’m left with the conclusion that I fucked up that connector or the socket on the board. So my phone is kaput.

I may take it to the Dial One guy to see if he can fix it, but I’m not holding my breath. The next thing I’ll do is buy some better damn screwdrivers. The ones I got weren’t even magnatized!

NEW PHONES ON THE WAY. I ordered not just one, but TWO used iPhone 7 pluses with 256GB of memory. Hopefully I’ll be set and have a back up to boot.

Tomorrow I’m going to use one of my Canon Vixia video cameras to record content for youtube. We’ll see how it goes. I really prefer using my iphone, but this will be a good experiment.

GOOD DAMN LUCK WITH THAT! I”ve been browsing Facebook Marketplace looking at Dodge trucks when I ran across a beautiful 1974 Plymouth Duster. Grabber Blue with a 360 automatic. Just beautiful and ready to rock. I told Tammy I want to buy it so I have a car to take to whiskey city cruisers while I work on the Plymouth. She wasn’t convinced. I would happily take the money out of my retirement to buy the car.

Tammy suggested using the money on home improvements. OK, but as long as I get the damn Duster!

Well, we’ll see if that works out, lol.
